Saint Victor’s Preschool celebrates Dia de Los Muertos

On Monday November 2nd the children and teachers of Saint Victor’s Preschool celebrated dia de los muertos or the day of the dead. It is a holiday celebrated throughout Mexico and acknowledged around the world in other cultures. The holiday focuses on the gatherings of family and friends to pray for and remember friends and family members who have died, and help support their spiritual journey.

Our dia de los muertos festivities included eating the traditional pan de muerto for snack with chocolate milk and decorating skull masks — each mask created was unique, special and made with love!

Happy Dia de los muertos from Saint Victor’s Preschool!

Saint Victor’s Preschool Annual Halloween Parade and Party

On Friday October 30th all the little ghouls, princesses, witches and ghosts of Saint Victor’s Preschool came out for our annual Halloween parade and party!

The children sang spooky songs about pumpkins and trick-or-treating! Our Halloween show was followed by our costume parade! Parent volunteers helped to pass out candy to all the eager trick-or-treaters along the classroom parade route!

After the show and parade were done — parents and children stayed for the party! Cookie decorating was the main activity of the party  — lots of fun!

A BIG Thank you to all of our awesome parent volunteers that came out to lend a hand during the parade. It was a huge success and it was all possible because of our amazing parents!!!

Saint Victor’s Preschool 5th Annual Pumpkin Patch Field Trip

For our 5th Annual Pumpkin patch field trip,we decide to mix things up a bit! We headed out to Tina’s pumpkin patch in Sherman Oaks!

The pumpkin patch had a few different bounce houses, a mini hay maze and of course lots and lots of pumpkins. Between the maze, the bounce houses, the giant slide and the pumpkins, the children had a blast (even though it was quite warm).

A HUGE THANK YOU to all our parent volunteers that helped out on the drive to the pumpkin patch! And another BIG THANK YOU to all the awesome parents that met us at the pumpkin patch!

Another fantastic field trip in the books! We’re already looking forward to our next field trip!!

A Special Spiritual Growth Day

Normally for our weekly “Spiritual Growth” days -we follow a religious curriculum entitled “God is Love”. The program consists of bible stories, songs and activities that follow the liturgical calendar. But this past Spiritual growth day was special as we had a visitor step inside the classroom.

Fr Harkins (who gives the Latin Mass at Saint Victor Catholic Church) was kind enough to stop by and chat with the children about everything from their thoughts on God and Jesus to why priests wear black and what exactly is haggis anyway?

The children were excited to see Fr Harkins and paid close attention to all the he said — be good, listen to your parents, and pray each night for your loved ones. Before leaving,  he bestowed a special blessing on the children in latin. A BIG thank you to Fr Harkins for visiting the children of Saint Victor’s Preschool!

Welcome to the new school year!

On Tuesday September 8th — the families of St.Victor’s preschool (both new and returning) headed to the preschool for their first day of our new 2015/2016 school year! It was a day full of new friends, new experiences, and a new classroom!

Our most exciting change this year comes in the form of navy and khaki! This year all the children attending Saint Victor’s preschool arrive each day in uniform — looking smart and ready to learn! Our preschool logo can be found on all of the navy polo shirts with matching khaki pants and/or skirts.

Our first day of school happened to be the Feast of the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary (the mother of God). The children celebrated by singing happy birthday to the picture of of our blessed mother.

The beginning of school also marks the start of our enrichment classes (Dance, Soccer and Karate), many new friends playing together, fun activities and a few goodbye tears here and there. However by the end of the week most of the new school year tears had been replaced by confident goodbyes and happy laughter.

Here are a few highlights from the week :

Summer Week 6 – “Science”

This week was all about experimenting and getting messy! The science activities included finger painting on aluminum foil, combining sugar cubes and food coloring, mixing water and oil, and mixing shaving cream and glue! The children had so much fun participating in these activities and learned quite a bit from these scientific experiments! We hope they will continue to be thinkers and scientists!

Summer Week 5 – “Zoo Animals”

Lions, tigers and bears, oh my! This week was all about “Zoo animals”. We sang songs, played games, heard stories and made crafts of bears, monkeys, elephants and lions. It was lots of fun to learn about different wild animals, where they live and what they eat.

Aside from all of the wild animals fun — we took advantage of the beautiful summer weather and took as many walking field trips as we could! What’s more fun than having an awesome day inside the classroom? Why, having an awesome time outside the classroom!
