Summer Week 4 – Cooking!

This week was all about cooking! The teachers planned an array of fun cooking activities that helped to promote and encourage the children’s sense of curiosity, creativity, and just plain having fun! The cooking activities included — making jell-o, banana and strawberry fruit smoothies, blue egg omelets with cheese, chocolate covered bananas, lemonade and a fruit salad!

I am a huge fan of children helping out in the kitchen! It’s a wonderful way to teach and bond with your child. Children are not perfect — they will make a mess and take longer than you would like by helping out. But the experience is priceless, the memories will last forever and the benefits are immense. And you might just spark a life long passion for cooking within your child!

Cooking/baking teaches children many concepts! They include:

1.) Patience —Learning to wait for their turn.

2.) Counting – Count the numbers of ingredients in the recipe.

3.) Science – Cooking is science — baking, frying, etc.

4.) Fine motor skills – Cracking eggs and mixing the batter.

5) Team work – The children learn that working together as a team will help everyone!

6.) Fun – Cooking/baking is super fun, messy and produces a yummy finished product!
