Valentine’s Day at Saint Victor’s Preschool

Love was definitely in the air on Friday February 14th — Valentine’s Day! The children, teachers and a few Parent Volunteers all came together to celebrate friendship and love! Beautiful Valentine’s day cards were passed out along with many sweet treats! Afterwards, the children sat down for a special Valentine’s day lunch. Thank you to all the parents that volunteered their time — we couldn’t have done it without you all!!

Chapel Day with Fr. Vincent Lopez, OP

For Chapel Day this week the children attended the noon mass at Saint Victor Church given by Father Vincent Lopez. Father Vincent spoke with the children during the mass about being good to each other, their friends and their parents. He also spoke to them about praying to Jesus whenever they are feeling sad or down.

Attending the noon mass is one of the many ways that Saint Victor’s Preschool incorporates faith formation, and love of family and God into the children’s daily lives. Thank you Father Vincent for for showing God’s love and light to the children of Saint Victor’s Preschool.

Build-A-Bear Friendship Field Trip

Every month the children of Saint Victor’s Preschool embark on a special field trip that ties in with the theme of the month. This month, our main themes are “Friendship” and “Love” – so to celebrate and learn more about “Friendship” & “Love, the entire school took a field trip to The Build-A-Bear Workshop– where everyone was given the opportunity to create their own special friend!

On the morning of Wednesday February 11th, the children, staff and wonderful parent volunteers of Saint Victor’s Preschool  set out for the Westside Pavilion where the very friendly and kind staff of The Build-A-Bear Workshop were waiting for us.

Once there, the wonderful staff helped each and every child choose and stuff their animal friend, as well as pick out clothing to dress them in. At Build-A-Bear Workshop, each child is able to put a “heart” inside their animal, giving him/her life and love.

Afterwards, the children groomed their newly created animal friends, and even made a Birth Certificate. It was a wonderful field trip filled with laughter, love and happiness!

Saint Victor’s Preschool 2nd Annual Christmas Program

photo 3

On Friday December 20th, 2013 , Saint Victor’s Preschool presented it’s 2nd Annual Christmas Program. The children performed Christmas songs and (as is now customary every year) performed a re- enactment of the Nativity Story. The performances were a HUGE success!! The teachers and I couldn’t have been prouder and the parents couldn’t have been happier!

In addition to the very merry Christmas program, Saint Victor’s Preschool held its 2nd Annual Christmas Silent Auction — with all proceeds going directly to the preschool! The auction included many one of a kind items including photographs of and artwork by the children of Saint Victor’s Preschool. A BIG Thank You to all the families that attended the program and to all that supported our silent auction.

The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels

IMG_3158

In the spirit of Advent season, the teachers, children and parent volunteers of Saint Victor’s Preschool made the trip to The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels in downtown Los Angeles. We were taken our own private tour, learned much about the structure and the history, and we had the opportunity to view elegant tapestries, magnificent stained glass windows and elegant paintings. After the tour, everyone enjoyed their lunch out on the Cathedral plaza — the children were able to play in the animal garden located on the plaza.

We learned so much and had an amazing time that I believe Saint Victor’s Preschool will make The Cathedral of Our Lady of the Angels a yearly field trip.

Saint Victor’s Preschool Thanksgiving Feast 2013

On the day before Thanksgiving, the children, the teachers and parents gathered here at Saint Victor’s Preschool for a traditional Thanksgiving feast. The delicious dishes included mashed potatoes with gravy, turkey slices, cranberry sauce, homemade stuffing, sweet potatoes, pumpkin pie, fresh fruit and bread rolls. One parent came in and made the stuffing with the children — giving each child an opportunity to help!

The children learned that Thanksgiving is a day to be thankful for their family, their good health, their toys, and most importantly; for having God in their everyday lives. The teachers also expressed the need to be thankful everyday, not  just once a year.

BIG THANK YOU  to all of the parents that joined us for the feast. On behalf of the staff of Saint Victor’s Preschool, I would like to say we are very thankful for having such wonderful and supportive family network. It was a very blessed Thanksgiving feast.

Chapel Time

Every week the children have a special day dedicated to faith formation and worship, which we call “Chapel Time “. It was created (in addition to the daily classroom teachings) to further highlight God’s everlasting love for all of us. Chapel Time is designed to include various activities including; attending the noon mass at Saint Victor Church, singing songs of praise, listening to short bible stories, creating beautiful faith based arts and crafts projects, and lastly spending time with either Sr. Marta Ann or Monsignor Murphy listening to their words of love, wisdom and faith.

This week, the teachers and children all helped to create a beautiful life sized rendition of Jesus on the cross. This project helped to illustrate the difference between a crucifix and a cross. If Jesus appears on the cross then it is called a crucifix. If the cross is plain without a Jesus figure, it is simply called a cross. The children helped by painting the cross brown as well as parts of the Jesus figure. Along with painting the cross and Jesus, the children listened to Sr. Marta Ann explain what  the “INRI” written at the top of the crucifix represents. The letters translate (in Latin) to “Jesus the Nazarene, King of the Jews”, and that Jesus is the son of God. Afterwards, the children, Sr. Marta Ann,  Miss Stephanie, Miss Kimberly and Miss Diana took a short walking trip up to Saint Victor Church. It was a beautiful and meaningful  Chapel Time this week.

IMG_9620

Saint Victor’s Preschool held it’s 3rd Annual Open House this past Wednesday October 9th, 2013. Parents were invited into the classroom to look around and see all the beautiful artwork that their children have been working so diligently on. Miss Stephanie, Miss Kimberly, Miss Diana and Monsignor Murphy were all in attendance and had the opportunity to to speak with each family individually. The children of Saint Victor’s Preschool were also invited to attend the Open House event and it was quite a fun experience for them to see their friends and teachers during the evening. We’re looking forward to another amazing year at Saint Victor’s Preschool!

Mr. Bones Pumpkin Patch

October has arrived here at Saint Victor’s Preschool, and with it our first field trip of the year! What better place to go to than a pumpkin patch! Mr. Bones Pumpkin patch is right down the street and the most conveniently located field trip so far. With the support of all our fabulous parent volunteers — we made this trip happen!

The children were able to jump inside a giant pumpkin shaped bouncy house, feed some very friendly farm animals, wander around a maze made completely of straw, and slide down an awesome skeleton slide!! And the best part of all was that each was able to take home their very own mini pumpkin!

A visit to the Mr. Bones Pumpkin patch is just what we needed to start our spooky month of October!
